Savory Pumpkin Pie

The Savory Pumpkin Pie is a dish full of flavor, very simple to prepare but that will make you a really good impression.

It is a preparation particularly suitable for the autumn period in which the pumpkins are in season and therefore particularly tasty and fragrant.

The taste of the pumpkin goes perfectly with the cheese and the onion and the final result is really wonderful. Making this dish will not require special culinary skills, but the result will be certainly successful, even among the little one.

So let’s see together how to prepare an excellent savory pumpkin pie.


  • 1 kg of pumpkin
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup  breadcrumbs
  • 1 onion
  • Butter, to taste
  • salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste
  • extra virgin olive oil, to taste
  • nutmeg, to taste
  • cheese, to taste


Start with the main ingredient of this recipe, the pumpkin. Deprive it of the seeds and then of the outer skin. This operation will take a few minutes longer since the pumpkin peel is particularly hard and therefore removing it is often not easy.

Reduce the resulting pulp into small pieces and place them in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 40 minutes after having sprinkled it with extra virgin olive oil and salt.

In the meantime, deprive the onion of the most external layers and reduce them into small cubes. In a non-stick pan, heat a few knobs of butter and extra virgin olive oil and brown the onion for about ten minutes until it is perfectly tender. At this point turn off the heat and leave the onions aside to cool.

Once your pumpkin is ready, crush it using a potato masher to reduce it into pulp. Alternatively, simply crush it with fork prongs.

Transfer the pumpkin pulp inside a bowl, add egg, cheese, breadcrumbs, the onion and season with salt, pepper and nutmeg according to your tastes. Mix everything together well until you have reached a consistency and compact consistency and above all a homogeneous result and at this point cook your pumpkin pie.

Take a baking dish, dirty the bottom and edges with some butter and add some breadcrumbs. Pour into the pan the dough you have made and mash it leveling it with the back of a spoon so as to have a perfectly smooth surface and a homogeneous final result.

At this point, put your pumpkin pie in a preheated oven at 325°F for about half an hour. Ten minutes before the end of cooking add cheese on the surface, depending on the final effect you want to obtain, and put back in the oven to finish cooking so that the cheese melts to perfection.

Once ready, serve your pumpkin pie hot.

Savory Pumpkin Pie


Keep pumpkin pie for a couple of days in an airtight container or covered with cling film.

Before serving it again, however, reheat it in a traditional oven for about ten minutes or in a microwave oven so that it is warm again.
