A Zebra cake is a very simple but special and also impressive cake at the same time. The use of two mixtures of two different colors, in fact, makes this cake very original and above all drives the little ones crazy for the magic that is released.
The preparation is very simple, it will take some time to combine the two compounds together but the final result will be really beautiful and will reward you with the time it takes to prepare it.
So let’s see how to prepare an excellent zebra cake and some useful tips for a really perfect result.
- 3 cups 00 flour
- 1 and 1/2 cups potato starch
- ¾ cup butter
- 3/4 cup milk
- 6 eggs
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
Work together butter and sugar to get a well foamy mixture.
Add the eggs, one at a time and at room temperature.
Add the flour, ½ cup of the potato starch indicated in the ingredients and the milk, also at room temperature.
Mix and only at this point add the baking powder, already sifted to avoid the lumps. Always sift dry ingredients.
Divide the dough into two separate bowls. In one, add the 2 tablespoons of potato starch previously kept aside while in the other add some bitter cocoa powder.
Also, in this case, sift the ingredients to eliminate any lumps.
Take a pan previously greased and floured and create the various layers. Add a couple of spoonfuls of the white dough and add in the center of the disc formed two tablespoons of cocoa dough. Proceed this way until you have finished both doughs.
Cook in a preheated oven at 356°F for about 50 minutes. Once ready and well cooked, leave it aside to cool.
Store the zebra cake for a maximum of 3-4 days under a glass jar or in an airtight container.
