Cook some dog shaped cookies is a great way to amaze children during a snack or a birthday party.
With some two-colored shortcrust pastry, in fact, is possible to create, in a few simple steps, some delicious biscuits perfect for theme parties or simply to make the moment of snack and breakfast more enjoyable and fun for children and in general for the whole family.
The realization of these cookies is really simple and the final result will amaze everyone.
Let’s see how to prepare dog shaped cookies and some useful tips for a perfect result.
- 4 cups 00 flour
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 egg white
- dark chocolate
Add the 00 flour on the work surface, in the planetary mixer or inside a bowl. Add the sugar and an egg, at room temperature.
Add also the butter, which must be very cold and reduced into chunks. Start mixing all the ingredients with your hands or inside the planetary for about ten minutes. For an even softer consistency add a yolk.
Divide the dough into two parts. Put aside a part and leave the other part on the worktop or in a bowl together with egg white and the cocoa powder. Mix well so as to create a shortcrust pastry with cocoa.
Let the shortcrust rest in the refrigerator for half an hour.
Roll out the pastry on the work surface and form some hearts using a special cookie cutter. The made hearts must all have the same thickness.
Shape your dog biscuits. Take the shortbread cocoa heart and cut it in half. Keep the tip together. Widen well the two parts made, keep them always united in the center, and approach them to the tip of the little white shortcrust heart.
Press to make adhere the shortcrust pastry to the white shortcrust pastry and try to slightly model those that will now be the two ears of your dogs.
If necessary, to eliminate any residual flour that would not let the two parts adhere, wet the edges of the ears with milk or albumen.
Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with a sheet of baking paper and place in a preheated oven at 356°F for about 15 minutes. The biscuits will be baked when just golden.
Decorate the cookies with dark chocolate. Chop it with a knife and melt in a bain-marie or in a microwave. Once well melted, use a simple toothpick, to realize the eyes, the nose and the whiskers on the cheeks.
Draw a small triangle for the nose and three dots on the cheeks to form the whiskers of your dog.
Let it dry at room temperature or, to speed up this operation, put in the fridge for a few minutes. This way, the dark chocolate will solidify and your cookies will be ready to serve to your guests and your children, perhaps accompanied by a cup of steaming milk.
Store the dog shaped cookies for up to a week in an airtight container.
